This year's Oil Festival parade is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, and has the theme “Oil 150: America's Energy Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.”
Officials anticipate that approximately 20,000 people will come to see the parade, which will stretch along a 1.7-mile route through the Queen City.
According to Tambra-Warner Sabatini, parade chairperson, the parade so far has a lineup consisting of 10 marching bands, three horse units, seven queens from seven area cities, and representatives from six volunteer fire departments, bringing with them 10 trucks.
And, last but not least, a total of 75 floats.
The parade route will be from East Main Street to Second, up Second, to Spruce Street, ending at Brown. It will begin at 11 a.m. and last approximately three hours.
Registration for the parade will begin at 8 a.m. at PNC Bank, near Burgess Park. Crews will direct parade participants from there.
Participants may stop by the registration location on Friday afternoon or evening to see where their parade spots have been designated.
Those who are in the parade, and need to park their vehicles, may do so at the Titusville Opportunity Park (TOP) at Building One. That parking area will be open from 8 to 11 a.m. on the day of the parade. After 11 a.m., the parking there will be open to the public.
Warner-Sabatini said the deadline for parade entries is Monday, Aug. 17. “We'll try to wrap things up then,” she said.
The judges will pre-judge certain parade entrants, while others, such as marching bands, will be judged from the viewing stand.
“We're ready to have a big and exciting parade,” said Warner-Sabatini. “We're ready to have lots of fun.”
She reminded residents to decorate their front porches and decks in recognition of the event.
