Let the Oil 150 festivities begin!

Get ready for a celebration unlike any other. Work on Oil 150 began months ago and will culminate in a week filled with excitement and memories that will last a lifetime.

From the thrilling entertainment, wonderful food, and lineup of tremendous events, this festival, which honors our history, will become a part of our history.

“It's coming down to the wire,” commented Oil 150 co-chair Barb Ives. “There will be so much to do. The city and [Oil 150] committee have been working very well together. I hope we have a large turnout, great weather and that everyone has a wonderful time.”

U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson commented, “Fifteen decades ago, the industrial revolution cried out for new methods to light the work that was being done inside buildings - and, there were those who thought ‘rock oil' might be the answer. Then, a man with a good idea drilled a hole in the ground and the oil industry was born along Oil Creek, and the furl for the world's industrial revolution was discovered.

“As they say, the rest is history, and that history is being celebrated with Oil 150 in the community of Titusville. It is an outstanding commemoration of a simpler time when the race to find oil was followed by the race to produce it quickly. I am very pleased and honored that I will get to take part in this celebration of the birth of an industry that has helped sustain this country.”

City Manager Pennie Maclean commented, “This is an exciting opportunity for the city. I encourage all residents to attend the various activities and bring their family and friends to help celebrate this historic event.”

Maclean said that she hoped residents would step forward to volunteer for the various tasks needed by the Oil 150 Committee
